Meet Duncan, the Head of Direct Sales at LilaConnect, who has been instrumental in driving the company’s growth since joining in 2021. With a passion for leadership and a commitment to expanding the sales team, Duncan is dedicated to helping LilaConnect thrive and reach new heights in the industry.
Firstly, can you introduce yourself and your role here at LilaConnect?
I’m Duncan, Head of Direct Sales at LilaConnect. I joined in 2021 when the company was in its infancy, and have since been overseeing all activities undertaken by the desk, field and venue sales teams. Effectively, I look after and manage anybody in a direct sales role, including the relationships with the third-party sales agencies that we work with.
To keep everything ticking along smoothly, I like to work very closely with the sales operations and marketing teams. This really helps in keeping every facet of the business aligned on our business goals, while also allowing for a great support network for one another. Everything we do is focussed on driving connection growth, with the overall objective of helping the company thrive.
What’s one thing that you are proud of?
I’m immensely proud of the way we have expanded the sales team and propelled the business. Of course, to be given the opportunity to head up the team is a real privilege. Having been here from the company’s inception, when we were just a two-man telesales team, to now 19 strong, seeing the progression is a real highlight. It goes to show that we have a razor-sharp focus and commitment to achieve our goals.
Getting your hands dirty and getting yourself out there in front of people can be a vital part of sales, which is why I introduced the field (door-to-door etc.) and venue (networking events and pop-ups etc.) sales channels. I think it’s crucial to lead from the front, and be a great example to those around you. I hope my journey so far and the way I conduct myself will inspire my team to continue achieving great things for the business. I’m happy to say that I have strong relationships with everyone in the sales teams, so most of all, I’m proud of them.
What do you like most about the work we do here?
The biggest positive about the work at LilaConnect is the environment and the people. Every member of staff is passionate about the work we do, and cares about the company. There’s a real collective responsibility for bettering the company in whatever way possible. When things are going great, we relish in sharing one another’s successes, and equally, we’re there to support each other when the going gets tough, to find the best solutions. We’re all very happy that we’ve got such a great product to sell and with the knowledge that it’s helping people in the local area and transforming communities.
What’s next for you and LilaConnect?
The natural rise of the business has been astounding, and it’s only up from here. The next steps will be to take LilaConnect to where we truly believe it belongs, one day nestled among the top of the National ISP’s. This will mean expanding our reach beyond our current network and venturing out even further around the UK. Of course, it has been, and will continue to be an amazing journey, and I will do everything in my power to be an integral part in furthering the growth of LilaConnect.
